I saw the article about your group in the VV today and thought I’d get in touch. You guys rock! I am a great proponent, and practicioner of practical skills. I have been complimented on my patched levi jeans by strangers, and do indeed know how to change a tire and fire a gun. I am also a custom furniture maker/woodworker here in the valley. I run a small furniture business with my husband, as well as teach woodworking part time at Camosun College in Victoria. You might have seen a few articles I’ve written in the VV under the ‘craft’ column for the Cowichan Valley Artisans. I would like to extend an invitation to facilitate a workshop for your group at some point if my expertise interests you. You can check out my website and see what I do. I also have a wiki at http://www.learningwoodworking.wikispaces.com (yes, too long a url, I know) where some of the project that I teach can be seen.
Good luck to you all and way to go! I still want to learn to kill and clean a chicken.
It’s great to meet fellow practical (re)skillers! Thank you so much for saying hi, Sandra. I’ll send you an email to discuss possible woodworking collaborations.
