All members of the Renaissance Women are artists of some sort. I write fiction and creative non-fiction.
I studied creative writing and English literature at the University of Victoria, wrote and produced two musical comedies for the Victoria Fringe Theatre Festival (2004, 2007) and have written short stories, columns and articles for a variety of publications.
My lifetime dream of being an author has come true! I am working with my co-author Sarah Simpson and New Society Publishers on a non-fiction book inspired by Island Grains called Uprisings: A Hands-On Guide to the Community Grain Revolution. Watch for our book launch in fall 2013 …
I write a column called “Up on the Farm” for The Winnipeg Review, an online literary magazine, about my life at Makaria Farm. Columns to date include:
“Goodbye Penthouse, Hello Freaky Vegetables,” January 18, 2012.
“The Reluctant Farm Wife,” February 21, 2012.
“Death and the Farm,” April 9, 2012.
“Revelations,” June 27, 2012.
“The Age of Artifice,” December 7, 2012.
Some of my writing has been published online:
“Open Pollinated,” The Winnipeg Review, July 4, 2011 (fiction).
“In Defense of Kale,” IslandChef.ca, February 3, 2011 (non-fiction).
“(Title Goes Here),” The New Quarterly, July 15, 2010 (fiction).
